Washington Literacy Council

      The mission of the Washington Literacy Council is to raise the literacy level of adults and children in the nation’s capital.

      To do this, the WLC trains volunteers to use a structured reading program based on the latest research in language acquisition.

Be a Tutor

Thank you for your interest in becoming a tutor! LVA tutors play an important role—and are in a special position to greatly improve the lives of others.

Here is what we ask of tutors:
     * Take an initial training session.
     * Work one-on-one with your learner, once a week.
     * Design lessons based on your learner’s goals and interests.
     * Make a one-year commitment.

Ready to see what success looks like? Read Write from the Heart, stories by LVA learners.
