Plants, Trees and Flowers
Let botany grow on you with the roots of biology.
By Jamie McElroy
The plant kingdom is as fascinating as the animal kingdom and even more diverse. Children will discover how a giant tree grows from an itty-bitty seed, why flowers bloom, and other amazing things plants do to survive. From the tallest redwood to the tiniest plankton see why the world of botany is so incredible. These books range from an introduction of plant names for the very young to how plants reproduce for more advanced readers. A simple yet beautiful favorite of mine is Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. The colorful tissue paper collages really bring the story to life while teaching colors and the names of flowers.
