The Milwaukee Jewish Coalition for Literacy, a program of the Milwaukee Jewish Council for Community Relations, is mobilizing volunteers from the Jewish community to serve as reading tutors for elementary school children from Milwaukee Public Schools. Volunteers are asked to commit one hour per week, working one-on-one helping children to improve their basic reading skills.

Literacy tutors attend a one-time training session and are then assigned to volunteer based on their availability. On-site tutoring takes place during the school day and volunteers work directly with each student's teacher to insure their specific needs are being met.

MJCCR Assistant Director, Kathy Heilbronner, conducts training sessions for new tutors. For more information or to sign up, contact Jeri Danz at the Council office, 414-390-5781 or email jerid@milwaukeejewish.org.
