The Calvert County Literacy Council, incorporated in June 1983, is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that provides Calvert County adults, ages 18 and over, with one-on-one tutoring.

Our mission is:
To teach adults to read, write, and speak English proficiently, to compute and solve problems, and touse technology to function on the job, in society, and in the family;
To empower adults to become life-long learners, to set and achieve goals, and to develop their knowledge and potential;
To advocate the benefits of a literate society and to break the cycle of illiteracy.

As a small, county-based organization, competing for state and federal grants is extremely difficult, and we must rely on help from large organizations, local businesses, and the generosity of individual donations.
