Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Works fairly well, but needs maintenance
The kids enjoy this, though our 2.5 year old would sometimes play with the wrong book inserted. Somehow, it didn't detract from his enjoyment.

Putting books in correctly aligned is hard for small kids alone. But probably the product is designed for playing under adult supervision.

The sound is a bit tinny, with some letter sounds being hard to distinguish.

The main problem was that eventually the cartridges would not get recognized, or the device would reset ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Daughter got bored BUT it was my fault, not the game's
My daughter got bored with this BUT I think it was because we only had one cartridge and couldn't find other cartridges locally at the time so once she was done with the first one, there was nothing left to do with it. It seems like a fun and educational toy and it's definitely durable (she dropped it a couple times but it still worked).

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Learning Tool For Your Pre-School/Elementary Aged Child, But Brittle
Both my son and daughter loved their leap pads. There are many "books" out there and each of them teaches something different. We took ours on long car trips to keep the kids busy. Battery life is pretty good and you can buy replacement "pens" from Leap Frog.

But, and this is a big one, they are very brittle. I give the service life of this model about 2 yrs tops. You don't break the outside, but the computer guts of the machine seem to be easily ruined which will cause the system ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - It doesn't work!
I purchased this item for my 2 year old. The book won't stay on the Leap Pad. It constantly said misread the cartridges. After he seemed frustrated, I tried it myself and could not get the thing to work correctly. I have come to expect better from Leap Pad products and I was very disappointed.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - bad cartridges ...
This game is ok, entertains my children for a little while. I thought everything was ok, but then, after only a couple of months, the cartridges started to malfunction! We have two leap pads and some games work in one, but not the other (and visa versa!) For the price, I don't want the toy to not work 1/2 the time after only a few uses. The books seem to hold up pretty good, but the cartridges don't. And, at a price of around $12 each, I was very dissapointed. If the cartridges worked all the ... Read More
