Editorial Review: Product Description: Learn to write your ABCs on an electronic lap-sized desk. Featuring six innovative games that make learning interactive and fun for your child, the Phonics Writing desk helps kids practice their writing, phonics and spelling skills, including how to spell Editorial Review: This electronic writing desk teaches kids the alphabet, letter sounds, letter formation, spelling, and word creation in a fun, interactive format. Kids can choose from six games: letters, a letters quiz, phonics, a phonics quiz, spelling, and "create-a-word." In the letters game, children push a letter to hear its name and see how it is formed on the LCD screen; players can also write their own letters on the "magic" writing screen. In the spelling game, children learn to spell simple words. In the phonics game, children first hear a letter and then are given a short word as an example. Along the way, the always-helpful LeapFrog "coach" offers lots of cheerful hints so children won't get stuck in any of the exercises. Additional features include an automatic shut-off, an oversize pullout handle, a variety of comical sounds for incorrect answers, and a two-position volume control. --Tami Horiuchi Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Daughter loves it but shuts off too quicklyMy four yr old daughter was obsessed with spelling and reading and writing. She is very sensitive and finding a toy that didnt have a character's face on it that she didnt like, or too loud, or music playing while she was trying to find the answer or make a loud buzzer when she gave the wrong answer or didnt write it the exact way. That was difficult to find, but this item fit the bill. My only "complaints" would be that the string that the pen is on isnt quite long enough, which made it difficult ... Read More Rating: - Excellent learing toolMy child tried to write immediately whereas previously showed no interest even at 4 yrs. The immediate success was a great confidence builder and being able to see the fruit of your effort right in front of you (unlike other electronic toys) was a shot of confidence. Love that it addresses both upper- and lower-case letters, since most similar products tend to focus on upper case letters, and a child won't learn to read that way! Great idea, great product, excellent learning tool. I wish my child's school ... Read More Rating: - Fun to play with I gave this as a present to a friend and she says her son loves it and plays with it all the time. He broke the pen on the first day and I mention it in a response and they sent him a whole new desk set for free. Now that was some customer service! Rating: - Good productMy son is 2 1/2 and he may be a little young for the Writing Desk. He seems to lose interest pretty quickly but I can see that it's going to be useful to him as he gets older. Rating: - Fun, just one little problem.I bought this for my daughter last christmas. (She was five). She loves playing with it my only complaint is that if she is having problems finding a letter or writing it correctly the machine gives one or two prompts then begins shutting off which got a little frusturating even for me. Other then that I feel it is a very useful tool. Very educational.
