- fun with sight wordsThis saddle stitched paperback book has funny short stories and poems. It has all of the pre-primer through first grade Dolch sight words. I think there are only 44 of these words on the entire lists. Maybe it is 43, but it isn't many. You can't say much with so few words. There are clever plays on words such as "I saw a fly fly by" and "we can play with a can." This can help readers think in terms of action words and names of things. - DissapointingI was disappointed with this book. It does contain many dolch words. However, the stories are dull and tedious. In addition, the book is flimsy - it is "bound" with staples.

- independent readingThese inexpensive little books are great in helping develop independent reading skills. Like the last reviewer.... The newest one, Albert the apple eating appaloosa, has short horse stories which we love. It is funny too. The author's website, Learning Abilities Books, has excerpts from the books. Almost all of the words in the books are Dolch sight words. So they get to practice, practice, practice while enjoying the stories, poems, and fables. They don't feel like they are practicing. The first 3 books have A Funny Dolch Word Book in the title.
Her favorite (and my favorite) is ALbert the Apple Eating Appaloosa. We love horses and this is a really cool book.
She can read it now without any help. She is really reading the words, not guessing at pictures or saying the pages from memory.
She started with book one. That is the best place to start.
