- Great illustration, great story
The illustrations from Cooney are enchanting! I carefully examined the drawings of each picture, they come with a lot of historical content - the boys pants use lace to tie, there is a bed of hay... a room where sleep, cook, and work are all in one place. Just imagine how significant it is to have shoes - cobblers were an essential trade! How do the children in those times spent their time? - Really fun Christmas book
Our family happened upon this book at the library one Christmas and the kids (ages 5,3,2) really enjoyed reading it. However, we knew it was a winner when the kids asked for it again the next Christmas after not having seen or talked about the book for a year. It's a lot of fun.
