Editorial Review:

Amazon.com Review:
Captain Frankie the hound dog and his sidekick Floyd are ready to sail their pirate ship to Toy Island in this 32-page phonics workbook for kids at the beginning first-grade reading level. Each full-color worksheet offers a different activity, and kids will get lots of practice with rhyming words, middle and ending sounds, word families, matching sounds, vowels, and sound blends. An adult will need to help with the directions for the worksheets and with "Frankie's Facts," a special feature that helps explain vowels and sound blends. Kids will enjoy the sheet of reward stickers included with the workbook and the octopus and dolphin stickers to add to a certificate when the workbook is finished. Frankie and Floyd are just two of the many animal characters from JumpStart, a leading software program for young children. (Ages 4 to 8) --Marcie Bovetz

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - JumpStart 2nd Grade Phonics Workbook is quite easy
Hi, you can call me StoryMaker. When I was much younger, I reviewed this, but it wasn't a very good review, so I'm doing a better one. Here goes nothin'!

Ever since I was in Kindergarten, I have enjoyed JumpStart software. When I was in 2nd Grade or so, I learned about the JumpStart workbook series based off the software. So, Mom got me a lot of JumpStart 2nd Grade workbooks off eBay. Some of them, like Math Workshop, were quite good. However, others were not good. Phonics is among them. ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - JumpStart 2nd Grade Phonics workbook - Too easy and has stupid parts
Hello, I'm StoryMaker, and we got a big JumpStart workbook (2nd grade) lot off eBay! Most I didn't even know exsisted, but I knew about this one I knew! It's too easy, and all the blends & digraphs were boring. It's for 1st grade! Actullay, Chocolate Dog could of done it! She knows here blends. But schwa wasn't too easy, but I could simply do it by just thinking, "Does this word have the regular A "ahhh" sound or the U "uhhh" sound?" And I hated the study of "Variant Vowels". I hated choosing wheather ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing Work book
I bought this because my 6 year old wanted it. I didn't have a really big expectation, just thought maybe it would help a good reader get better. He LOVES IT! he finished the entire workbook in 1 night! I kept asking if he wanted to stop and he said no. He just kept going. GREAT BOOK!!I'll get the rest of them now.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Very basic 2nd grade work
I bought this as summer work for my son, who is going into 2nd grade. This is a very basic phonic work book, with simple blends. As a review work it was ok, but it didn't cover all of his first grade phonic lessons. If your child is a good reader, or reading at 2nd grade level, this book is not very challenging.
